Since 2019, I have developed this expressive and contemporary style as a visual reflection of the anxieties and uncertainties surrounding me. Through fragmented forms, layered colors, energetic lines, and a sense of movement, I try to translate emotions that are difficult to express through words.
These works emerged during a period the growing feeling of impending conflicts and wars. Rather than depicting these events literally, I transform their psychological impact into abstract and semi-figurative compositions. The crowded spaces, overlapping forms, and vibrant yet restless colors embody fear, confusion, displacement, and the human search for safety and escape.
This body of work is therefore not only a reflection of a particular time, but also an expression of the collective anxiety of people living through uncertainty and crisis.

About Joseph El Arid

Joseph El Arid is a Lebanese contemporary and Impressionist painter whose artistic practice brings together architectural structure, emotion, and the atmosphere of everyday life. Over the years, he has developed a distinctive visual language that combines expressive color, perspective, and rhythmic lines to create paintings that are both structured and emotionally evocative.
A recurring element in El Arid’s work is the arch, a form that he has developed and explored for more than fifteen years. Inspired in part by the traditional Lebanese arch and the architectural character of Lebanese homes, the arch has become an important personal symbol within his visual vocabulary. It suggests both a physical passage and a threshold between spaces, memories, and emotions.
His compositions also incorporate horizontal and vertical lines derived from architectural perspective, creating a dialogue between geometry and painterly expression. While his work reflects an Impressionist sensitivity to light, color, and atmosphere, it also explores contemporary approaches to space and form.
El Arid works across two complementary approaches: an architectural style and a more emotional, expressive style, while maintaining the same artistic spirit and personal vision. His work reflects a continuous exploration of the relationship between architecture, landscape, memory, and human emotion.
Based in Lebanon, Joseph El Arid continues to develop his distinctive artistic language through painting and participation in exhibitions and international art platforms.
