The 3 pieces are paintings of a sunrise viewed from an airplane (2026). They are accompanied by poems exploring how reality shifts from one space to another across a threshold, allowing us to move differently in the new space and revealing how our internal and external perceptions are magnified and blown beyond their limits.

Poems

the courage it takes
to cross a threshold

nothing and everything is a preparation
to enter the new space

the sun shines differently
its colors
a hue of pink and purple
to cradle the intensity
of transformation

Cells morph
bones crack and shift
membranes stretch
tissues twist and unravel
A deeper knowledge sets in

a person leaves
an identity pulls itself away
fluidity blubbers through
definition disappears
humility invites transparency

then the moment happens
crossing the threshold
the new space welcomes 
what is yet to become

Between the what was and what will be
lies a space where time hangs differently
hours and days crash into each other
a disappearance of a point of reference

Such spaces of the in-between
stretch and amplify uncomfortable aspects
sometimes sleep comes as a savior
sometimes discipline learned slowly simmers
in the pot and dries up to crack all
that held a life together

The temptation to hold on to memories 
and past victories
the temptation to dread what will befall
ahead
until the importance of moving through
washes over all the fears

a weed flowers in a cemented walkway
a branch greening in a scorched land
a bird's song inhabiting the night

life knows how to enter under the skin
it creates a metamorphosis of being
chains melt away like rendered fat
in a cauldron meant for a new feast

Time and space in between
become the way, the truth, the life
stripping away 
what stops serving the fates
They create what is needed
a readiness and a sharpness
to enter the untold
the yet unwritten.

About Katia Aoun Hage

Katia Aoun Hage is a multidisciplinary artist. Born in Cameroon and raised in Lebanon, she is currently living in the USA with her family. She has served as a music educator for 15 years, founded an indie press, Elyssar Press, and is currently the founder and music agent at Elissa Music Agency. An avid reader and thinker about life, spirituality, and environmental and social issues, Katia has expressed them through her paintings, music, and poetry, as well as through her involvement in the arts and education systems. Her books of poetry are “After the War, the Women Spoke” and "Come away with me, living the questions".
