Ghobeira’s creations, Sasha and AZ, embody the exhibition thread “Ghosts of the Future.” They are surreal echoes of emotion, memory, and desire. Born from collapse, they haunt the present with unresolved dreams, reminding us of what lingers and continues to shape what lies ahead.
Sasha emerged in May 2021 as a deeply personal character, a form of therapy and a vessel for the artist’s emotions and desires. Sasha’s surreal anatomy is not arbitrary; it is a visual translation of the unconscious.
The Eye represents the observer, the artist himself, and the challenge of capturing multiple states of mind within this singular motif.
The Wings symbolise the free spirit, a reflection of the artist’s essence and desire for liberation.
The Human Body, elongated and distorted, shifts to express the aesthetic and emotional resonance of each piece, concealing stories beneath its forms.
AZ, by contrast, is the observer, the dreamer, the wanderer of emotions. Born from the full spectrum of life - from A to Z - AZ is a vessel of limitless expression. He drifts between curiosity and contemplation, carrying the weight of thought while embracing the unknown. Without boundaries, he embodies raw experimentation, existing in a space where emotion and imagination intermingle.
Together, Sasha and AZ stand as haunting presences, weaving fragments of the past into visions of what is yet to come.

About Joseph Ghobeira

Joseph Ghobeira (b. 1988, Lebanon) is a multidisciplinary artist with a master’s degree in interior design from the Lebanese University. After spending eight years in the design field, he founded his studio in 2018, marking the beginning of his full commitment to art.
His work spans painting, tattooing, and mixed media, characterized by bold colors and surreal, expressive styles. Through hybrid figures, such as half-human, half-tree beings and human-headed birds, Joseph explores themes of rootedness, emotional liberation, and transformation. His use of drawing, inks, acrylics, and collage creates layered compositions that reflect the tension between confinement and freedom, inviting viewers into a world where human form and nature intertwine.
In addition to his practice, Joseph is a dedicated fine arts teacher, imparting his knowledge at prestigious institutions like Lycée Libano-Allemand Jounieh and Saints-Coeurs Sioufi.
Joseph’s work has been featured in the #4 issue of L'Art et le Monde and the virtual exhibition Vivid Vision (May 2024), curated by The Galleria Beirut. He has also showcased his art in solo exhibitions, including Kulturzentrum Jounieh (Oct 2023) and Institut Français du Liban, Jounieh (Jan 2024).
Joseph’s art offers an introspective exploration of emotion, identity, and transformation, encouraging viewers to reflect on their connections to the past, nature, and the body.
