Nature has always been an empowering place for me, my sweet escape and source of inspiration. A place where I can feel whole, where I can grow and flourish.
After drawing “Refuge” in 2020, I decided to continue the series with “Plénitude” in 2023.
“Plénitude” depicts a woman resting in the hollow of a cedar tree, shining through the darkness. As Lebanon kept sinking deeper into the economic crisis, nothing seemed to matter when I was looking up at the massive cedars of Maaser el Chouf.
This particular cedar is said to be the one drawn by Henri Philippe Pharaoun when he designed the flag of Lebanon. A big symbol of strength and hope.
Charcoal and Pencils with a 4 cm white border & non-reflective glass).
About Chloé Sleilati
Chloé Sleilati is a freelance Lebanese illustrator and comic artist based in Beirut. Trained at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), her work is mostly inspired by the flora and fauna she meets through various hikes and trips. Everything is a source of inspiration, from the smallest insect to the great outdoors.
Working most of the time traditionally with pencils or colored pencils on paper, her work is delicate with a developed eye for details and a strong sense of color.
In her new series in black and white, she depicts women finding peace and comfort in cedars, shining through the darkest times.
