According to the Embodied Realities exhibition's curator Dr. Pamela Chrabieh, "In Not Talking to You, Tala Beydoun captures the silent weight of tension between two figures, their faceless forms turned away from one another in a quiet standoff. The rigid body language and subtle contrasts in color—his deep purple, her golden yellow—suggest unspoken emotions, a moment of disconnection suspended in time. The textured backdrop, with traces of urban structures, situates them in a space that feels both intimate and distant, as if their silence echoes through the fabric of the city itself.
This piece deeply resonates with the Embodied Realities exhibition, where the body is explored as a site of emotional expression, communication, and fragmentation. Here, the absence of facial features paradoxically intensifies the emotional impact, as the viewer is left to project their own experiences of distance, pride, or unresolved conflict. Not Talking to You asks: When words fail, how much can the body reveal?"
Production year: 2018.

About Tala Beydoun

Tala Beydoun is a multidisciplinary artist, engaged in various mediums including painting, collage, and notably, embroidery. Having dedicated three decades to teaching, she embarked on a transformative journey, transitioning into an artist, particularly focusing on multidisciplinary work. This significant shift occurred after she enrolled in an embroidery class at Espacefann, supplementing her education with courses in weaving and branding.
Tala's creative process is fueled by human emotions. She intertwines hand embroidery with machine stitching, utilizing fabrics, yarns, threads, treated papers, hardware, acrylic paint, china ink, and other mediums. This amalgamation results in her unique, upcycled wearable art pieces, which encompass pendants, earrings, necklaces, and paintings.
