Feedback by Dr. Pamela Chrabieh:
Lucy Pochoghlian’s paintings unfold like fragments of inner landscapes: vibrant, raw, and deeply resonant with the aftermaths we all carry. Through bold gestural strokes, layered textures, and luminous contrasts of colour, her works channel rupture and reconstruction. They are visual echoes of what remains after collapse: shards of memory, waves of unresolved emotions, and the possibility of new beginnings emerging from chaos.
Each canvas seems to oscillate between dissonance and harmony, much like the process of living through trauma and moving beyond it. The dense accumulations of reds, oranges, and blacks feel like scars, while the lighter traces – yellows, blues, and whites – suggest breath, resilience, and continuity. The improvisational quality of the lines, almost like graffiti or subconscious markings, mirrors the unpredictable rhythms of survival and healing.
Within the framework of Aftermaths, these artworks embody the act of weaving together what was lost and what persists. They remind us that aftermaths are not static conclusions, but ongoing negotiations between pain and possibility. Pochoglian’s canvases invite viewers to enter this liminal space, where memory is not only preserved but transformed, and where art becomes a vessel for resilience, imagination, and the quiet strength to begin again.
