This oil painting of a traditional Lebanese house on canvas is a captivating blend of realism (Broumana, Lebanon) and fantasy, executed with meticulous attention to detail. The artist employs a miniature-like style, where the architectural elements are intentionally skewed, creating a whimsical yet poignant depiction of heritage. The house, with its red-tiled roof and stone façade, evokes a deep sense of nostalgia, harkening back to a time when such structures were - and still are - symbols of stability and cultural identity in Lebanon.
The painting walks a fine line between realistic representation and almost dreamlike quality, where the skewed perspective invites viewers to consider the house not just as a physical structure but as a symbol of resilience amid the chaos of Lebanon's multiple crises and wars. The vibrant green of the garden and the surrounding trees emphasize a love of nature and a longing for peace and continuity, standing in stark contrast to the rapid urbanization that threatens the country’s cultural heritage.
This work is more than just a depiction of a house; it is a narrative of hope, projecting a better future where the preservation of heritage and a connection to nature remain possible. The artist captures the essence of Lebanese identity, weaving together past, present, and future into a single, harmonious composition that resonates with both nostalgia and a forward-looking optimism.
Production year: 2010.
