As an artist, I create from feeling—where memories, moments, and visual sparks converge into color and form. Art found me later in life, during the stillness of COVID, when the world slowed down and my journey with the brush truly began. Since then, I have discovered beauty in every corner: in nature, in people, even in the smallest, most unexpected details. Vibrant colors, fluid lines, and silence—especially the solitude of night—are the elements that shape my dialogue with the canvas.
The artwork I am presenting in this exhibition is a tribute to Fairuz, the eternal voice of Lebanon. I painted her wearing a golden crown, a symbol not only of her legendary stature but also of the emotional weight she continues to carry today. The piece was also born out of the recent loss in her family, which I felt deeply as a mother. To me, it reflects the unbearable grief of a mother burying her child—a sorrow no crown can ever ease. In this way, a moment of national mourning became profoundly personal.
Painting has always been, for me, an emotional act. I believe colors carry energy—healing, joy, and sorrow—and each of my works is infused with the intention of transmitting light and serenity. Through these layers of color and emotion, I hope that those who encounter my work feel something lasting, something that lingers beyond the canvas.

About Gloria Barbar Assily

Gloria was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1965, during a time of war that shaped her early sensitivity to beauty and emotion. From a young age, she showed creativity, but her initial path led her into the world of makeup. In 1986, she began her career as a makeup artist and eventually rose to become an international trainer for the luxury brand Lancôme, a position she held until 2003.
After marriage and raising two sons abroad, Gloria explored various creative fields—from cooking to chocolate-making—but the paintbrush remained her constant companion. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, a global pause that invited introspection, that she reconnected deeply with painting. What began as a casual activity with her son soon grew into a personal artistic awakening.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Lebanese University and completed a course in icon writing, reflecting her interest in both sacred art and human psychology. She later pursued painting courses with established artists and earned a diploma in painting techniques from the Lebanese American University, expanding her technical expertise. Gloria also studied color therapy and its emotional impact, which continues to inform her creative process.
Her style blends bright colors, clear lines, and emotional depth, with women often serving as central figures. She works with acrylics, oils, and natural pigments, drawing inspiration from Picasso, Paul Klee, and Ashvin Harrison.
Gloria’s artwork has been featured in several exhibitions in Lebanon and abroad, including the ALLAPRIMA International Festival of Visual Art in Sharm El Sheikh, the Emotional Art Exhibition by Art & Artist Gallery, and the Ville Francophone Exhibition in collaboration with the Municipality of Jounieh.
Each of her works reflects her evolving inner world and her desire to spread serenity, healing, and hope through color.
