Digital Illustration
This artwork depicts how a woman sees herself through her gaze. The frame shows only the woman's reflection, and not her actual body, highlighting not how she is but how she sees herself. The message here is that everyone sees you differently, what is important is how you see yourself. Your identity and your place in the world should be defined by you and only you.
About Devika Menon
Devika Menon is an Independent Artist and Designer.
She makes figurative art that tells a story. Her works explore community, spirituality, and what it is like to love your body as a woman of color. Menon largely depicts the female gaze and is interested in showing how women see themselves in the world. She also likes creating intimate snapshots of daily life.
Devika mainly works digitally but also paints with oils and acrylics. She also makes traditional Kerala Mural Paintings and Rajasthani Miniature Paintings. She doesn’t like restricting herself to a particular “style”, and explores a variety of techniques to communicate a unique narrative.
Originally from Kerala (India), she grew up in the Middle East in Bahrain and Dubai. Her work is influenced by her South-Indian heritage, her Middle-Eastern upbringing, and nature.
She holds a Masters in Animation from RMIT University, Melbourne.
