"In Des racines et des ailes, I explore the deep connection between the human body and its environment, blurring the boundaries between physical form and nature. My work reflects on how our surroundings shape us—both nourishing and constraining us—mirroring the way roots anchor a tree yet restrict its movement.
Through mixed media, collage, drawing, inks, and acrylics, I create hybrid figures—half-human, half-tree beings with expressive ethnic masks. These figures symbolize individuals deeply tied to their origins, carrying the weight of ancestry and emotional history. Their entangled forms speak to the struggle between belonging and liberation, questioning whether our connection to the past is a source of strength or confinement.
The contrast between opacity and transparency, the layering of textures, and the dynamic use of color evoke a state of transformation, much like the evolving landscapes we inhabit. Meanwhile, human-headed birds in my compositions represent those who have detached from their roots, achieving a sense of freedom from environmental and emotional constraints.
By merging the human form with natural elements, my work invites reflection on how our bodies interact with the spaces around us. Are we shaped by our environments, or do we shape them? Des racines et des ailes is an introspective journey into the ways nature, culture, and personal history intertwine, questioning the balance between rootedness and the desire to soar".

About Joseph Ghobeira

Joseph Ghobeira (b. 1988, Lebanon) is a multidisciplinary artist with a master’s degree in interior design from the Lebanese University. After spending eight years in the design field, he founded his studio in 2018, marking the beginning of his full commitment to art.
His work spans painting, tattooing, and mixed media, characterized by bold colors and surreal, expressive styles. His use of drawing, inks, acrylics, and collage creates layered compositions that reflect the tension between confinement and freedom, inviting viewers into a world where human form and nature intertwine.
In addition to his practice, Joseph is a dedicated fine arts teacher, imparting his knowledge at prestigious institutions like Lycée Libano-Allemand Jounieh and Saints-Coeurs Sioufi.
