“Democracy” symbolizes women's struggle and vulnerability in the modern world. The world where mothers are forced to endure the pain of separation from their children in both, physical and emotional ways. The painting symbolizes times when black appears white, the real world is replaced by a virtual one, where wrong is right and the colors of the painting remain bright as if to emphasize the absurdity of this world. The octopus represents the authority that tears families apart, consigning loved ones to uncertain fates. The octopus is rendered in shades of gray and black, symbolizing its indifference in the face of human suffering.
