According to the Embodied Realities exhibition's curator Dr. Pamela Chrabieh, "In Beirut mon Amour, Tala Beydoun presents the body as both a vessel of memory and a map of belonging. The faceless figure, shrouded in textured layers of deep blues and earthy tones, carries within its chest an embroidered cityscape—a fragmented yet resilient heart that beats with the intricate lines of Beirut’s streets. The stitches trace a history of rupture and repair, evoking the scars and stories embedded in the body and the urban landscape alike.

This work aligns seamlessly with the Embodied Realities exhibition, where the body is explored as a site of transformation, vulnerability, and endurance. Here, the human form is rendered both personal and collective, an individual yet universal entity that bears the weight of displacement, reconstruction, and love for a city that, like the body, is constantly evolving. The facelessness of the figure invites the viewer to step into its presence—who among us does not carry within their chest the places that have shaped them?"

About Tala Beydoun

Tala Beydoun is a multidisciplinary artist, engaged in various mediums including painting, collage, and notably, embroidery. Having dedicated three decades to teaching, she embarked on a transformative journey, transitioning into an artist, particularly focusing on multidisciplinary work. This significant shift occurred after she enrolled in an embroidery class at Espacefann, supplementing her education with courses in weaving and branding.

Tala's creative process is fueled by human emotions. She intertwines hand embroidery with machine stitching, utilizing fabrics, yarns, threads, treated papers, hardware, acrylic paint, china ink, and other mediums. This amalgamation results in her unique, upcycled wearable art pieces, which encompass pendants, earrings, necklaces, and paintings.
