According to the Embodied Realities exhibition's curator Dr. Pamela Chrabieh, "In this rendition of At the Mall, Tala Beydoun presents two figures in a shared yet disconnected space—unfaced, unmoving, yet profoundly present. Their skeletal outlines and abstracted forms suggest bodies in transition, caught between existence and erasure. The textured, chaotic background contrasts with the stark simplicity of their presence, reinforcing a sense of alienation within a public setting.

The circular void within one figure’s chest evokes a sense of emptiness, a silent commentary on consumerism, routine, and the emotional detachment often felt in bustling, impersonal spaces. At the Mall fits seamlessly within the Embodied Realities exhibition, exploring how bodies occupy, interact with, and are shaped by their environments".

Production year: 2018.

About Tala Beydoun

Tala Beydoun is a multidisciplinary artist, engaged in various mediums including painting, collage, and notably, embroidery. Having dedicated three decades to teaching, she embarked on a transformative journey, transitioning into an artist, particularly focusing on multidisciplinary work. This significant shift occurred after she enrolled in an embroidery class at Espacefann, supplementing her education with courses in weaving and branding.

Tala's creative process is fueled by human emotions. She intertwines hand embroidery with machine stitching, utilizing fabrics, yarns, threads, treated papers, hardware, acrylic paint, china ink, and other mediums. This amalgamation results in her unique, upcycled wearable art pieces, which encompass pendants, earrings, necklaces, and paintings.
