According to the Embodied Realities exhibition's curator Dr. Pamela Chrabieh, "In At the Mall, Tala Beydoun strips away the superficial layers of consumer culture to reveal the raw, faceless essence of human presence. Two figures sit side by side, their forms outlined in delicate, almost skeletal lines, yet their identities remain undefined. The muted palette and chaotic background suggest a space that is both familiar and detached—one of routine, anonymity, and quiet coexistence. The circular voids within their chests hint at absence, longing, or the hollow nature of material pursuits.
This piece resonates deeply with the Embodied Realities exhibition, where the body is examined as a vessel of experience, emotion, and societal interaction. Here, the figures exist in a public space, yet remain unrecognizable—mirroring the paradox of being surrounded yet unseen".
Production year: 2018.

About Tala Beydoun

Tala Beydoun is a multidisciplinary artist, engaged in various mediums including painting, collage, and notably, embroidery. Having dedicated three decades to teaching, she embarked on a transformative journey, transitioning into an artist, particularly focusing on multidisciplinary work. This significant shift occurred after she enrolled in an embroidery class at Espacefann, supplementing her education with courses in weaving and branding.
Tala's creative process is fueled by human emotions. She intertwines hand embroidery with machine stitching, utilizing fabrics, yarns, threads, treated papers, hardware, acrylic paint, china ink, and other mediums. This amalgamation results in her unique, upcycled wearable art pieces, which encompass pendants, earrings, necklaces, and paintings.
