Rabih Yehya’s Calligraphy Workshop at Kulturnest

Rabih Yehya’s Calligraphy Workshop at Kulturnest

In an era where everything moves quickly, from typing messages to scrolling through feeds, slowing down to draw a single letter with care feels almost radical. Yet, that’s exactly what happened last Friday at Kulturnest, where we had the honour of hosting a traditional Arabic calligraphy workshop with visual artist, calligrapher MZIJART, and co-founder of harf.lawnRabih Yehya.

The session was a deep dive into the beauty and discipline of the Ruqaa (Ruqa'ah) classical script. Rabih’s teaching went beyond technique; it was about rhythm, respect, and reconnecting with a heritage that spans centuries. Participants sat side by side, rediscovering what it means to write with purpose and precision.

In today’s digitised world, calligraphy is more than just an art form. It’s a form of resistance to speed, to disposability, to forgetting. It reminds us of the value of what’s been passed down, and of our responsibility to carry it forward. Every workshop like this is a small act of cultural preservation, keeping traditions alive through shared experience and collective practice.

At Kulturnest, we are proud to collaborate with artists like Rabih Yehya, and to create space for heritage to flourish in contemporary ways.

We look forward to more gatherings where tradition is not only remembered but lived.
