Art in Times of Adversity: Reflections on Al Jadeed’s Feature of the Urban Canvas Exhibition at Kulturnest

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Al Jadeed (NewTV) for featuring our collective exhibition Urban Canvas in a recent interview with Dr. Pamela Chrabieh, Co-founder and CEO of Kulturnest. The opportunity to discuss this meaningful initiative and its importance for Lebanon’s art and culture scene was truly an honor.

The Urban Canvas exhibition, hosted at Kulturnest in Sin-el-Fil, is open to the public until December 31, with a virtual component accessible 24/7 from anywhere in the world. Featuring the work of 22 artists, the exhibition showcases creations born during Lebanon’s most turbulent times, embodying powerful narratives of resilience, justice, and peace.

Why Urban Canvas Matters

As Dr. Chrabieh highlighted in the interview, Urban Canvas is not just an art exhibition—it is a symbol of hope and defiance. At a time when Lebanon faces severe challenges, including economic instability, war, and the struggle for justice, art has remained a vital pillar of resilience. The exhibition offers a space for artists to express their narratives, connect with the community, and remind us all of the unyielding power of creativity.

Supporting Artists Amid Challenges

During the interview, Dr. Chrabieh also touched on the significant hurdles facing artists and cultural institutions in Lebanon. Yet, initiatives like Urban Canvas prove that, even in the toughest circumstances, art finds a way to thrive.

Kulturnest, as a cultural hub, plays a crucial role in supporting these artists and fostering connections between creators and the public. The hybrid format of Urban Canvas, combining physical and virtual experiences, reflects our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring that this celebration of art and resilience reaches as many people as possible.

A Moment of Pride and Inspiration

We were especially moved by the inclusion of a segment on Al Jadeed showcasing the remarkable work of students from Collège Notre-Dame de Jamhour. As a proud alumna of Jamhour, Dr. Chrabieh expressed her admiration for their initiative and the hope it inspires for the future of our country. Their dedication to making a positive impact serves as a reminder that, even in times of great difficulty, Lebanon’s youth remain a beacon of promise and possibility.
