Maral Maniss

Born in Lebanon, Maral Maniss grew up in Beirut City. She holds a Master’s Degree in Visual Arts from the Lebanese University.

Lately, she has become involved with expressive and bold-style paintings. Her inspiration is rooted in the works of Arshlie Gorky, Jackson Pollock, and other modern Western artists. Maniss’ paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in private and group shows at numerous art galleries and cultural institutions.

Her artworks are located at the MACAM Museum-Byblos and with private collectors in Lebanon and abroad.

Maral Maniss’ painting has a closer connection to her childhood and surroundings. She speaks of the strength of her roots and the beauty often found in things that seem to be forgotten. Maniss’ inspirations are rooted in her unique style and have involved in a highly skillful studio practice. Her bold organic work investigates women's interaction and humanity’s spirit to rise above social concepts. Through the use of diverse materials, these investigations are manifested via an uncommon, impulsive, and organic voice. Full of energetic movements and gestures. Her artworks refer to the strength that Maral Maniss has had to have in her life journey. It is also reflecting on the flexibility of communities sharing her Lebanese Armenian roots. A lot of mediums and materials were used to create her work. Each color/medium consists of many layers of thin paint, ink, silver leaf, markers, lines, and composition.
